Janice is a skilled and compassionate professional in the field of social work, holding both a Master of Social Work (MSW) and a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), in addition to being a Registered Social Worker (RSW) authorized to provide psycho-social interventions. With a career built on supporting individuals and communities, Janice brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of how social-emotional well-being influences learning.
Today, Janice will be focusing on how the principles of the Neurosequential Model in Education (NME) can transform the way we approach teaching and support students. Developed by Dr. Bruce Perry, NME emphasizes the importance of understanding the brain’s development and how early experiences impact learning, behavior, and emotional regulation. The model integrates neuroscience with educational practices to guide teachers in creating environments that are safe, nurturing, and responsive to students' developmental needs.
Janice has extensive experience in working with students, educators, and schools to apply these principles. She’ll be sharing practical strategies on how to use this knowledge to build trauma-informed classrooms, foster resilience, and enhance student engagement and well-being. Her insights will help us understand how we can better support students, particularly those who have faced adversity, by aligning our teaching practices with the natural development of the brain.
