About me
Lyssa Horyn is a certified teacher in Edmonton, Alberta; she obtained her Education Degree from the Concordia University of Edmonton, where she also studied Psychology and English. Lyssa has worked as an Inclusive Education Consultant with Inclusion Alberta for close to a decade. Before her consultative work, Lyssa worked as a teacher in Edmonton and St. Albert.
Lyssa is passionate about helping education teams figure out how to include all students, especially those with intellectual disabilities. She has helped schools across the province improve their inclusive practices by providing professional development, coaching, modelling, co-teaching and ongoing consultative support. As an educator, Lyssa knows just how valuable it is to have open communication between schools and families and looks to families as valuable experts for their children. Lyssa sees everyone as a learner with something to contribute and advocates for making learning accessible for all, no matter age or ability. When working with schools and districts, Lyssa understands the systematic complexities that can arise from families pushing for their inclusive vision in places where this might not be the norm. She strives to stay curious, meet people where they are, and build from there. Lyssa supports schools and school districts across Alberta.
In her spare time Lyssa enjoys paddle boarding, boating, fishing, being in the water, hiking, camping, playing guitar, belly dancing, festivals, healing arts, and working with her hands. The wildest thing Lyssa has ever done was buy a rickety old campervan and live in it for a year in Australia. Lyssa is now well versed in Aussie slang and roaming around without shoes.
