Meeting the Needs of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Students in the Classroom
Friday April 4, 2025 10:15am - 11:30am MDT
The Teaching Quality Standards require teachers to have an understanding of Indigenous people, cultures, and histories. Teachers are also expected to be able to support Indigenous students, build relationships with Elders and others in the Indigenous communities, recognize and use authentic resources, and connect Indigenous culture to every subject they teach. A lot of teachers do not even know where to begin, and may be concerned about making a mistake or offending someone. Participants will learn strategies, gain knowledge and understanding, and learn how to take small steps to move forward on this journey in a kind, genuine, and meaningful way.
