Grade 7/8 Fractions - What’s the Big Deal?

Fractions now start earlier and have an increased emphasis in K-6. What is the impact on Grades 7 and 8? What tools are students using in K-6 that should also be embedded in junior high learning? How would some of these strategies be used to help our current junior high students struggling with fractions and their applications? Roll up your sleeves and join in as we unpack the tools and understandings that students completing the new math program bring to our junior high classrooms!

Helping Our Students REALLY Understand Fractions Grades 4-6

With new Curriculum starting Fractions as early as Kindergarten through sharing, our students are coming up through a new curriculum with an expectation that they understand the concept of fractions and not just the processes associated with them. This will be a very interactive session with lots of manipulatives to model ways we can teach and help students REALLY understand the importance of the Unit Fraction and how it builds into the progression of learning. Get ready to roll up your sleeves!
